GREETINGS FROM ST. PAUL LUTHERAN

| Lutheran Church Missouri Synod - Grand Traverse Area |

We invite you to join us in receiving the gifts of God in this traditional Lutheran church. The Christian Church’s traditions are expressed in deep devotion to God and His Word. We worship with body and spirit in a setting intended to glorify the Lord God with true reverence and dignity.

Triduum: The Three-Day Vigil

On Maundy Thursday we begin what is known in the historic Christian Church as the “three-day” sacred service. The Services of Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday are conceived of as a single service of congregational worship, separated by times of “recess.” Therefore, the Benediction and Recessional which normally end our services are postponed until the end of the Easter Vigil on Saturday night. These days of intense contemplation focus on the “new testament” in the blood of Christ which God has established for us on Calvary’s cross.

At the close of the Maundy Thursday Service, the depth of Christ’s servanthood is demonstrated as the altar is reverently stripped in preparation for the Church’s observance of Jesus’ death. In this service the Church and her catechumens begin the journey through the three days of Christ’s Passover from death to life and from captivity to freedom.

St Paul’s Schedule

  • Good Friday Services: 7:00 p.m. (Friday, April 22nd)
  • The Vigil of Easter: 7:00 p.m. (Saturday, April 23rd)
  • The Divine Easter Service: 9:30 a.m. (Sunday, April 24th)

St. Paul's was founded by German immigrants to Leelanau County in 1877. Our church building is our second - built in 1919 - the first being destroyed by fire. Its traditional architecture draws the eye and spirit to the one true God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who gives all good things to His creatures.

It is our privilege each Sunday to be gathered into the Lord’s house to hear the scriptural truth of forgiveness and peace that is ours in Jesus Christ, who alone offers eternal life with our Father in Heaven.

We offer welcome and friendship to anyone who desires to join us in hearing the Word of God and receiving His heavenly gifts of peace.
